Evangelistic Story
Can You Help Me? Many people on the street had said how they liked the books and thanked me for calling and sharing some time with them, but none had felt committed enough to place a firm order. The last few houses came into view just as the sun was disappearing over the western hills.
“What do you want?” asked the lady from the next house.
Realising she would not be very interested in our books, I quickly replied, “I am really looking for a Maori family with three or four young children. [Maori families are always my best customers.] Perhaps you can help.”
“Oh, yes,” she responded, “that will be that house up that long drive on the hill. They've got at least four children.” Handing her some free literature, I quickly set off up the long drive.
Tina, a solo mum, invited me in to talk as she prepared dinner. Yes, she was really impressed with the children's books, and yes, she had four small children, but she had just bought a car and was really short of money. When I explained the easy payment plan she said, “OK, I'll give it a go.”
As I drove home through the darkness, cold and weary, I knew it had been a successful day. Tina has now purchased Vital Facts for Girls and is looking for ward to buying all the rest of the books and videos. She has begun doing the correspondence course and plans to come to church on the next visitors day. - Harold Dassler, New Zealand
